Navigating the NDIS management options

Engaging the right people for your care can help ensure you get the most out of every single day. However, to get the most out of your care you first need to understand the NDIS. When deciding what works best for you, you can select either self-managed, plan managed or NDIA managed. Depending on your situation any one of these can be right for you:

• Self-managed: you manage your funds and your care

• Plan managed: a manager oversees and distributes your funds on your behalf

• NDIA managed: the NDIA manages your funds on your behalf.

Now the latter two require the least involvement however, the first option is the best way to get the most out of your NDIS. Being self-managed means the NDIA provides you with funding so you can choose and access the care that works the best for you and your lifestyle. The administration this requires can be cumbersome but, overall, you will likely find it to be the most flexible and effective.

Both plans managed and NDIA managed are easier for you to manage as a lot of the work is taken out of your hands. However, it is important to understand that with it being taken out of your hands you also lose some degree of control over your care.

We strongly recommend getting a comprehensive understanding of all three options to make sure you are making the right choice for your situation.
